3 reasons to stop using expired cosmetics

If your vanity case is full of makeup and your bathroom cabinet is full of creams, let me tell you that the time has come to go through them all and get rid of those that have been around longer than the dinosaurs. Because, although it may not be noticeable to the naked eye, the structure of the products has changed and they no longer feel as good or are not as effective.

On average, each person uses between 8 and 10 cosmetics a day, including hygiene and/or beauty products for the body or face. Shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, make-up, etc. We propose you a small exercise, think about the cosmetics that you have in your bathroom and select those that you have not used for at least two weeks. Once you have located them, do you remember when you opened them?

So, do cosmetics work? The answer is yes. Once opened, we should consult the PAO (Period After Opening) symbol on the back of the container, which indicates the shelf life of the product from the moment of opening. The number we find will determine the months of use of the product in optimal conditions once opened, which ranges from 3 to 24 months. In cosmetics where the date is not included, it is determined that the shelf life is greater than 30 months.

However, we must also pay attention to the signs that indicate the state of the cosmetic, such as changes in texture, odor or color, or the separation of ingredients, warning that they are not suitable for use.

  1. Expired cosmetics can damage the skin due to chemical processes occurring in the ingredients inside the packaging that can be harmful.
  2. It can have adverse consequences such as burns, sties, itching, etc.
  3. At best, they may have no effect on your skin.

If you don’t remember when you opened your cosmetic either, write down the date and place the biosensor to find out if the structure of the ingredients has been modified. In addition, from Oscillum, we leave you two tips that will help you to preserve your cosmetics in better conditions: store them in cool and dry places according to the manufacturer’s specifications.

The latest novelty of the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Health Products is the portal of notifications of unwanted effects related to cosmetic products. In case you suffer adverse reactions, you will be able to notify it from the following link, being the main objective, to see if any cosmetic performs unwanted effects to prevent public health.
